Today, I saw season 1 of "Game of Thrones" on Blu-ray at Walmart for $19.74. I looked on the back of it and noticed something weird. While there's a small note that special features are not rated, there's no actual list of special features. The box looks similar to the one on Amazon, but, where the special features would be listed, it simply says seasons 2, 3, and 4 are also available. Also, there's a weird foreign-looking "16" rating. I've never seen the series but have wanted to, and this seems like a great way to try it out, but I decided against buying it until I could determine that all of the special features are included, and it's playable on North American Blu-ray players. Anyone know anything about this?
I would say it's Canadian stock and wally marts is probally having a sale on them. I haven't heard anything about a bare bones relase of Season 1 so I think your safe to get it. I have the entire series and trust me it is awesome and worth the $19.74
It's not Canadian. That foreign looking 16 rating is in a light blue rectangle, right? I see that rating on a lot of unofficial live concert DVD's, mostly in the metal genre. If I'm not mistaken that's actually a Nordic rating. Either way I'd stay away from that release because, like those music DVD's, it's most likely a bootleg.
You could always return it if there's issues with it? I mean Walmart doesn't sell bootlegs does it?
Mark, go ahead and buy it. It probably has the special features, and if it doesn't it's no big deal, they wouldn't have changed your life anyhow.
Concur. It's also on Amazon for 19.99 and Best Buy will price match that.
I went in early before work today and bought it, but I haven't opened it yet (it cost me $18.84 total after my discount and tax).

I scanned the front and back:

There are multiple releases of this. Some have bonus features. Some don't. This version is new, and doesn't have the extras. Info:

Interesting. Thanks.
I used to care a lot about extras. These days, I barely have time to watch the feature.
